
National Show Tours 2012
Thursday Aug. 30: Tour by charter bus (about 8:30am-4pm). $39
We will travel 1 ¼ hour Southeast to The Oregon Garden in Silverton, OR. It features 80 acres of thousands of plants
displayed throughout 20 specialty gardens. Be sure to see the 400 year old Signature White Oak. A 30 minute
narrated tram tour upon entrance will provide an overview of the garden. Later, visitors can go back and explore on
foot their own favorite highlights. Box lunch served at the garden. Be sure to bring your camera!
As we travel along the Eastern edge of the Willamette Valley on the way to the hotel, we will stop at Christopher Bridge
Winery in Oregon City for viewing and an optional wine tasting (optional tasting $5). Oregon’s Willamette Valley has
developed a strong reputation for Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris wines.
Friday Aug. 31: Tour by charter bus (about 8:30am-4:30pm). $36
Three private dahlia grower’s gardens of excellent quality are on the tour today:
Mike Riordan in NE Portland
Max Ollieu in Battleground, WA
Eric Toedtli in Vancouver, WA
All gardens are within a twenty mile radius (30 minutes) of the hotel.
Sunday Sept. 2: Tour by charter bus (about noon-4:45pm). $23
At the conclusion of the morning ADS meetings, we will board charter buses for Swan Island Dahlias in Canby, OR,
forty-five minutes south of the hotel. We’ll enjoy boxed lunches as we travel. Swan Island Dahlias, the largest dahlia
grower in the Western Hemisphere, will be in their second weekend of their annual “Dahlia Festival”. The Gitts family
opens their fields to the public for strolling and picture taking. The basement of their barn features over 400 floral
arrangements using our favorite flower! Additionally, you can visit the ADS Canby Trial Garden right there on site.
Even if you’ve visited before, you will want to visit again.
Monday Sept. 3: Tour by charter bus (about 10:00am-2:30pm). $29
We will travel 40 minutes Southeast by charter bus to Ted and Margaret Kennedy’s Oregon City private dahlia
garden. Ted and Margaret are the hybridizers of at least 40 “Hollyhill” dahlias. Margaret has an amazing eye for
design that rings throughout the garden in her hanging basket displays. Lunch will be served in the garden.
